First Generation Woes

African children are often given three options: lawyer, doctor, or engineer. For some. their parents push being a doctor more than anything. This projects follows four creative first generation (American) West African femmes who love the arts but whose parents push them in the STEM direction. Beyond their creative passion, two of the femmes featured are queer which creates further friction within themselves, their family, and their culture. In this project, I curated striking and varying visuals to portray the spectrum of the femmes to combat the limiting person their family wants them to be.
